Chicaque Cloud Forest

A cloud forest thirty minutes from Bogotá. Hiking trails, waterfalls, over 200 species of birds and enough mist to forget the city exists.

Overview

Parque Natural Chicaque is a private cloud forest reserve covering 244 hectares just outside Bogotá. The altitude ranges from 2,100 to 2,700 meters above sea level, which means the forest moves through seven distinct types of woodland as you climb — each one with its own temperature, vegetation and wildlife.

The park has 18 kilometers of marked trails, from easy walks to more demanding climbs. It is one of the closest places to Bogotá where you can genuinely disappear into nature for a full day. Colescape handles transport from your hotel and back

About the destination

The trails at Chicaque pass through dense cloud forest where the mist rolls in and out throughout the day, giving the forest a different feel depending on when you arrive. The most popular route leads to Pico del Águila, the highest point in the park, with views over the Tequendama region and the valley below. The climb takes between two and three hours depending on the pace.

The forest is home to over 200 species of birds including endemic hummingbirds, toucans and the occasional Andean condor. Sloths have been spotted along the trails as well. For serious birdwatchers, Chicaque is one of the most accessible and rewarding spots near Bogotá.

Beyond hiking and birdwatching, the park also offers ziplining, horseback riding, tree climbing and rappelling for those who want more than a walk through the forest. There is a restaurant inside the park and cabin accommodation for those who want to extend the visit into a weekend.
