Overview

Sopó is considered the cradle of paragliding in Colombia. The Pionono hill sits at the ideal altitude and angle for tandem flights year round, with east-to-west winds between 15 and 20 km/h that allow pilots to reach up to 500 meters above the takeoff point. On a clear day the views stretch over the entire savanna and the Tominé reservoir below.

No experience is required. Flights are tandem, you go up attached to a certified instructor who handles everything. Colescape handles transport from your hotel in Bogotá and back.

About the destination

The launch site sits on Pionono hill, one of the most recognized paragliding spots in Colombia. From the top, the landscape opens up completely; the Bogotá savanna stretching south, the Tominé reservoir to the northeast and the white village of Guatavita visible in the distance. The quiet before takeoff is its own kind of experience.

The tandem flight is handled entirely by a certified pilot. After a short briefing on the ground, you take off together and spend the flight in silence above the Andean highlands. No engine, no noise. Just wind and altitude.

Sopó itself is worth a stop after the flight. La Cabaña Alpina is the most iconic stop in town with fresh dairy products, coffee and a view of the countryside. The kind of place that makes the drive back to Bogotá feel less urgent.
