Overview
Colombia has been the world's leading emerald producer for centuries. The mines of Muzo, Chivor and Coscuez in Boyacá produce stones with a depth of green and a level of clarity that no other country has been able to replicate. Most of those stones pass through Bogotá before reaching international markets, and this experience follows that path.
Over four hours, the Colescape Emerald Experience covers three stops in the heart of the city: the International Emerald Museum, the informal market at Plazoleta del Rosario, and a selection of certified specialist dealers where you can purchase with confidence. By the end, you know how to read a stone, what to look for when buying and why Colombian emeralds are in a category of their own.

The Experience
Stop 1 — International Emerald Museum
The starting point. On the 23rd floor of the Avianca Building, over 3,000 specimens trace the journey of the Colombian emerald from the mines of Muzo and Chivor to the global market. By the time you leave, you know exactly what to look for in a stone — and what to avoid.
Stop 2 — Plazoleta del Rosario
The informal market where traders have been selling stones on small cloths for decades. No showcases, no price tags. Just buyers, sellers and the kind of negotiation that has defined the emerald trade in Bogotá for generations. Worth seeing before you buy anywhere else.
Stop 3 — Certified Specialist Dealers
The last stop and the right place to buy. A carefully selected group of certified dealers with guaranteed stones and expert advice. With the knowledge from the previous two stops, you arrive ready to make a purchase you will be proud of.
