About the destination
The lagoon sits at 3,000 meters above sea level, hidden inside a nature reserve accessible only on foot. The trail takes about 45 minutes through Andean forest. The lake appears suddenly at the end — perfectly circular and completely still, with a shade of green that is hard to describe until you see it. A park guide leads the walk and explains the Muisca rituals that took place here for centuries.
Back in town, Guatavita La Nueva is one of those places that feels untouched. White walls, terracotta rooftops, cobblestone streets and a main plaza quiet enough to actually sit in. Good for lunch, artisan shopping, or simply walking without a map.
The Upside Down House is five minutes from the town center. A two-story building constructed entirely inverted — furniture, stairs and rooms all flipped. Most people spend more time there than they planned.
